“Back to the old ways”

Produced in Kalagangan in the Matigsalug tribe by Joshua Sam Bañez and Leonardo Sabuan in 2003.

Language: Matig Salug

The Christians in a village take part in a meeting where they are being taught to go back to the old traditions, especially sacrificing to their familiar spirits. As they do so they see themselves more and more enslaved again in their old habits of drinking and revenge killing. A missionary doctor patiently spends his life to help them in practical ways to see the difference between the Christian faith and the old Manobo tradition. He challenges them that forgiveness is the right way not revenge. One evening he himself dies at the hands of revenge killers. However, people turn back to the Lord and are able to forgive their enemies.
